Landing Committee

The D-Day Landing Committee has been working since 1945 to honor the memory of the combatants of June 6, 1944, and preserve the legacy of this historic day. It brings together many Normandy municipalities and organizes official commemorations each year in tribute to veterans and victims of the conflict.

D-Day Beaches

The D-Day landings of June 6, 1944, on the beaches of Normandy were the largest amphibious and airborne operation of all time. Even today, millions of people come to pay their respects to the D-Day landing beaches and pay tribute to the soldiers who liberated France.

Created in December 1943, SHAEF was the joint headquarters tasked with preparing and then conducting Operation Overlord. Its supreme commander had been General Eisenhower since January 1944.
