The Utah Beach sector was chosen to host the international ceremony commemorating the Allied landings in Normandy. The last international ceremony in this sector was in 2017. The various ceremonies of the 81st anniversary
In accordance with the Law of 21 May 1947 giving a national character to the ceremonies commemorating the Allied landing in Normandy on 6 June 1944, the D-Day Committee maintains the tradition of this commemoration, even if it is the 81st anniversary which cannot have the same impact as that of the 80th anniversary last year.
The official ceremonies will take place as follows:
- 10 a.m. – Children’s Ceremony – Utah Beach Federal Monument
- 15 p.m. – Ecumenical ceremony – Temporary cemetery no. 1 – Sainte-Mère-Église
- 16 p.m. – Ceremony – Monument signaling the 2e French DB – Saint-Martin-de-Varreville
- 16h30 - International Ceremony – American Federal Monument – Sainte-Marie-du-Mont

Indeed, the Normans always remain attentive to maintaining each year with fervor the memory of this June 6 which, thanks to the courage and determination of so many young men from across the Atlantic, was for them the year of regained freedom, even if it was necessary to wait another year for peace to be established in Europe with the capitulation of an inhuman regime whose liberation of the camps reveals all the horror.
The presence of many children and adolescents who will be associated with their teachers in these commemorations, will testify to the loyalty of future generations to those who gave their lives so that barbarism would end and a world of peace, respect for humanity and freedom could be established.
